Stone Owl Partners offers two focused service lines — designed to take any complex institution from knowing what needs to change to having actually changed it. Both draw on expertise built across commercial hospitality and Oxford collegiate operations, and are available to universities, independent schools, heritage venues, and similar organisations.
For institutions with needs outside these two lines — interim operational leadership, Bursar's office support, governance process work, or specialist project briefs — bespoke engagements are available on a case-by-case basis. The starting point is always a conversation.

Many institutions have a clear sense that certain things could work better — but lack either the bandwidth or the independent perspective to examine them systematically. Depending on the scope and what the institution needs to do with the findings, this takes the form of either a structured audit or review — a systematic examination of a defined set of departments or processes — or an operational diagnostic, a deeper piece of work whose primary value is in the decisions it enables rather than the documents it produces. We advise on which approach is appropriate at the scoping stage.

All audit work draws on commercial hospitality best practice as its benchmark — the standard against which service-delivery operations can most usefully be measured — while accounting fully for the specific constraints, culture, and governance of the institution.

Every report includes a prioritised recommendation list with an effort/impact assessment and a proposed implementation pathway.

HOW ENGAGEMENTS ARE PRICED

Every audit, review, or diagnostic is scoped and costed as a fixed fee before any work begins. The fee reflects the scope of the engagement and the value a well-executed piece of work is designed to create — not a day rate applied to a timesheet.

We do not publish standard prices because no two engagements are alike. A conversation costs nothing. A proposal sets out scope, approach, deliverables, and fee in full, so that the investment is clear and controlled before any commitment is made.

The day-to-day running of a residential, catering, and facilities operation leaves limited bandwidth for the focused work that meaningful process improvement requires. Implementation support provides that capacity — working alongside the institution's staff to translate recommendations into clear, documented, and sustainable processes.

This may follow a Stone Owl Partners' audit, or it may build on an internal review that has already identified the direction of travel.
